It is a glorious day when rivals come together for the greater good. The time for a
united front within the local area is here. Clubs have dropped their guard, checked their
ego at the door, and opened their minds to a new perspective on youth soccer. The course
of youth soccer will be changed in our area forever.
Going forward, Flagler United and St. Augustine United competitive programs will
partner together for a new, stronger organization. The new partnership organization will
be named FC United of Florida. This will allow for the leveraging of player talent as well
as coaching and training expertise to create stronger programs and teams.
The members of Flagler United and the St. Augustine United competitive program
(from the Ancient City Soccer Club) will play an important role in this transformation.
Those who care about the development of the players and the game will be open to a
reality beyond what is best for their own child, and will be open to positive change for all
players. This partnership will allow for the blending of player talent, coaching, and trainer
expertise to create a positive development atmosphere for players to play at the highest
levels of soccer offered in the state, region and nation.
What does this mean for your child? While bigger never automatically means better,
nationally it is clear that those clubs with the most resources are able to make the greatest
positive impact on the most youth soccer players. This is a significant step toward moving
soccer in this area in the proper direction in order to maximize your child’s potential.
The membership of both clubs needs to be assured that this initiative was not taken
lightly or in haste. Leadership teams from Flagler United and St. Augustine United
explored all options over several months and found that they agreed on the fundamental
soccer principles that drive player and team development. Leadership found that they
were able to look beyond what they had in place to what the future possibilities could be.
They focused solely on the players and teams and found that the core beliefs of each group
were in line for a perfect partnership. The creation of this partnership between the two
competitive clubs’ programs allows for an absolute path to success both on and off the
field.
